The Melbourne Marathon Festival is coming to town on Sunday 2 Oct. For 15 years now JMBF supporters have joined our running (or walking) teams and raised funds to help us to help James Macready-Bryan and other young Australians living with acquired brain injury – but that’s not the only way to lend a hand. If you want to support JMBF but you’re not keen on running, you can help us by volunteering as a course marshal, or as part of a team at a drinks station. We need a few hundred enthusiastic people to keep things in order along the marathon route on the day. If you don’t mind an early start and you want to be part of the action, we can guarantee you’ll enjoy this experience!
Your task as a course marshal will be managing pedestrian traffic and/or supervising intersections/road blocks along the marathon course, pointing runners in the right direction and giving them some encouragement on their way past. Helping out at a drinks station involves filling and setting out cups and handing them to runners as they pass. Most volunteers will need to be at their post at 5:30 am, and will finish up usually at 1 pm depending on location. There is though a handful of shifts starting later in the day – ideal for those running in an early event who would like to volunteer after they finish.
As a volunteer you’ll get a free t-shirt, cap, safety vest and a lunch pack – and you will really have fun being part of one of Melbourne’s biggest and most exciting sports events of the year. While you’re at it you will be helping JMB Foundation, because for every volunteer on our team we receive a donation from the Melbourne Marathon. You’ll be doing something great!
Please note course marshals must be 18 years of age or older. Water station volunteers must be 15 or older.
