The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra 2017 concert season begins in Melbourne on 24 March

The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra (ARCO) showed great support last October by donating a season subscription which we raffled off at the JMB  Foundation 10th anniversary luncheon. The lucky winner’s wait is almost over, as the ARCO 2017 concert season commences on Friday 24 March at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

Under the Artistic Direction of Richard Gill AO, the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra brings to life the colours and contrasts of Classical music together with the expressive and emotional realm of Romantic music, in a fabulous concert season. Performing on the exquisite and dynamic period instruments of the time, Australia’s world-class Romantic and Classical orchestra presents bold and daring programs with superb soloists, conducted by Artistic Director Richard Gill AO and Principal Guest Conductor Benjamin Bayl.

ITALIAN ROMANCE : BEETHOVEN & MENDELSSOHN

ITALY AND THE ART OF LOVE – BEETHOVEN’S ROMANCE FOR VIOLIN AND MENDELSSOHN’S BELOVED ‘ITALIAN’ SYMPHONY.
Catch the new wave of Historically Informed Performance musicians as they bring a revitalised spirit and energy to Beethoven and Mendelssohn’s masterpieces, conducted by our brilliant Principal Guest Conductor Benjamin Bayl. From the opening riveting chords of the Coriolan Overture to the playful Contredanses and the sublime Romance for violin, performed by concertmaster Rachael Beesley, Beethoven will have you swooning in your seats and dancing for joy in the aisles. After the interval we highlight the gorgeous sound of a full string orchestra playing on pure gut strings, where you’ll fall in love with Wolf’s Italian Serenade for Strings and be thrilled by Mendelssohn’s passion for Italy in his most lively symphony.
